Optima Community Association is committed to providing sustainable communities. Our focus is on creating places where people want to live - whether that means providing new communities or transforming existing neighbourhoods into vibrant, and popular areas to live in.
We have a strong track record of successful partnership development from the multi-million pound masterplanning urban renewal projects Attwood Green and Park Central, refurbishment and new-build developments We create sustainable communities by building homes for rent and shared ownership, and with our partners, homes for sale and commercial opportunities as well as supporting the community through social and economic programmes.
We develop new homes that are energy efficient, attractive and set in a high quality built environment.
Key Statistics
- Optima was founded in June 1999 after residents voted with a clear majority (62.1%) to transfer stock to an independent, charitable social landlord, Optima Community Association.
- Our remit is to carry out the regeneration of five former council estates.
- Tenant satisfaction has risen dramatically from 58% in 2002 to just under 92% in 2009.
- Optima own and manages in excess of 2,000 homes including two sheltered housing schemes. Many of our homes are in high rise blocks, but with our development programme an increasing number are houses and low-rise apartment blocks.
- Optima’s 15 strong Board of Management is made up of seven tenant Board members who are elected to their posts by other tenants.
- We refurbished 1,150 homes, demolished 1,400 and will build a total of 1,122 brand new homes for rent. 250 will be for affordable home ownership. All our homes exceed the government’s Decent Homes standard.
- There are five residents’ associations operating in the neighbourhood.
- Together with our private sector partners and the local authority, an estimated £550 million will have been invested in the area.
- Private sector developments will create 2,560 new homes for owner occupation.
- A dedicated recycling facility means over 90% of demolition and excavation material is being reused.
- Funding sources include £46 million from central government, £66 million loan funding from the Nationwide Building Society and Homes & Communities Agency Grant.
