PV Solar Panels

PV news update

We successfully fitted 138 homes with solar PV during 2012, which is estimated to result in a CO2 saving of around 138 tonnes a year and just under 3,500 tonnes over the lifetime of the panels!

This was to technically suitable houses and bungalows, where the occupiers would gain the most benefit from reduced electricity costs, which are estimated to be about 40% saving a year per household. The decision was made at this time not to fit to blocks of flats or maisonettes, as the panels would not be strong enough to feed into every flat, only giving enough power towards some of the communal electricity. We may review this in the future, depending on government support for solar PV.

New build solar PV

Our construction partners Persimmon and Bullocks have fitted solar photo-voltaic panels panels and tiles on properties at the Firebird and Woodview developments in Edgbaston.

The move will tackle fuel poverty head on - and pay for itself via government feed-in tariffs. Householders should see both their carbon footprint and their bills shrink. We estimate that through fitting to these two new build schemes alone, the following savings should be achieved: £2,400 every year total annual cost savings for residents and 425 tonnes of CO2 over the 25 year life guarantee of the panels!
